Focus & Approach
Pediatric Urology is a medical subspecialty of pediatric medicine.
Dr. Novak’s training first focused on urology: the treatment of the genitourinary tract. This includes the urinary tract – two kidneys, two ureters, the bladder, the sphincter muscle that controls urine flow, and the urethra that delivers urine from the bladder to outside the body; the adrenal glands, reproductive organs, and genitalia.
His advanced training was in pediatric urology, in which he focused on the uniqueness of treating urological issues of infants – sometimes while in utero, growing children and adolescents into young adulthood. Smaller physical bodies that are still developing require a high degree of precision to deal with immediate medical issues, but also the foresight to project future needs – whether medical or surgical.
Dr. Novak and his staff consider each child a unique individual, whose medical issues deserve a customized yet team-based approach. In addition to involving the patient, Dr. Thomas and his staff also engage parents and families, and strive to work closely with primary care physicians and other specialists.
The goal of South Texas Pediatric Urology – and every practice of South Texas Pediatric Specialists – is to provide the most thorough treatment possible so that your child can attain optimal health.
